Cancer is the fourth sign of the zodiac and is most often symbolised by the Crab. Cancer is one of the three Water signs, the others being Scorpio and Pisces. In the same way as Taurus, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces, Cancer is negative in polarity which means that Taurus prefers to be self-reliant instead of looking to other quarters for help.
Cancer is the Latin word for ‘crab’ and this is the reason this zodiac sign is associated with this sea creature. This comes from the Greek legend in which the goddess Hera placed stars in the sky in the shape of a crab as payment for the crab’s service to her in her battle with the hero Hercules, according to most of the mythological accounts.
The constellation of Cancer lies between Gemini on its West side and Leo on its East side. Cancer is composed of only a few stars unlike most of the other signs of the zodiac.
